Dominican Republic says it will begin free trade talks with Canada

Hmmm. With Canada involved in NAFTA, Dominican in CAFTA, and each country signing a free-trade agreement with each other, is another free trade agreement (FTAA) really necessary. The answer, of course, will depend on who you ask. Ask the US and the answer is yes. Why? It's the only way they can control the rules of trade with other countries. Do you think the Dominican Republic would be allowed to run a 40-million trade surplus with the US like it does with Canada? I don't think so.
